Tashla’s first dream was to become a lawyer then she fell in love with accounting.
“When I started off searching for employment within the accounting profession, it proved a bit difficult as I had a bachelor of laws (LLB) rather than an accounting major degree. In September 2008, a Big 4 auditing firm gave me an opportunity, and I started off as an audit junior, while at the same time pursuing the ACCA qualification.”
“I worked with that firm for five years, where I progressed from an audit junior to audit senior on engagements, gaining experience in retail, banking, manufacturing and non-profit organisations. After qualifying in 2013, I contemplated expanding my horizons, but was not ready to give up being an auditor.
Tashla joined Ernst & Young St Lucia soon after as an assurance senior with responsibilities spanning from planning to completion of the audit, auditing of management estimates, leading the audit team providing supervision and guidance, as well as being the main client liaison in the field.
Variety and the opportunity to learn are what she loves the most about her job. “the best thing about being a public accountant/auditor is the constant opportunity to gain knowledge in different companies in various industries."
Tashla has big dreams for the future. ”Hopefully in the next couple of years I will be well on track to becoming a director within my current firm.”
If she could sum up success in three words they would be; happiness, dedication, fulfilment.
