Jade was recruited by PwC, Jamaica soon after graduating from university.
"Knowing PwC was one of the top audit firms in Jamaica and that they only hired the brightest and best gave me a feeling of accomplishment but I was not sure what to expect from the auditing world and life on a nine - five job. I started as a trainee accountant and the first couple months proved a little challenging as I had to put into practice all that was garnered during training. After the experience on a few engagements however, and with improved understanding my effectiveness and efficiency improved dramatically."
Jade worked his way through the ranks becoming a well-rounded professional along the way. "I got annual promotions moving to a medium staff accountant in July 2011 then to a heavy staff accountant in July 2012. As I progressed in the firm the workload increased and I was given more challenging and complex areas to complete in a shorter time which has allowed me to be more rounded.”
“As a senior accountant I am responsible for planning the audit, supervising junior staff members, reviewing audit work, applying audit procedures to test complex audit areas such deferred taxation, reviewing financial statements and preparing audit deliverables such as management letters. This current role provides more challenges and opportunities to improve project management skills as I work on multiple assignments simultaneously monitoring staff at different locations.”
He loves the variety his job offers, “One advantage at PwC is the many clients individuals are exposed to. I have worked on clients from a diverse set of industries, namely: banking, investment management, insurance, telecommunications, hospitality, manufacturing and distribution, petroleum and agriculture each of which provided unique challenges with great learning experiences. I must be honest, the hours are sometimes demanding and the work challenging but having had the opportunity to work with some of the best teams has made the experiences quite rewarding."
In three to five years he sees himself as an auditing or accounting manager or financial controller.
If he could sum up success in three words they would be; ambition, perseverance, achievement.
